Despite the absence of Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston, this sequel to Bruce Almighty is poised to prompt a torrent of laughter in cinemas this summer.

It’s been four years since we saw God (Freeman) decide to teach Bruce Nolan (Carrey) a lesson. This time round it’s Evan Baxter’s turn to get a wake up call.

Evan (Carell) has left Buffalo and his anchor position to become a Congressman in Washington. He gets the shock of his life when God (Freeman) appears and warns him of an impending flood.

Though he does his best to ignore God’s commands to build an ark, Evan finds himself surrounded by a host of creatures wanting to get on board.

Despite his family’s concerns he’s having a midlife crisis, he sets about his task with undoubtedly hilarious results.

Will Carell - who played Bruce’s television station rival in the first film - match Carrey’s performance? With a string of sterling comic performances in the bag, combined with a movie budget of $250 million, my bet is on Evan Almighty to be a rib-tickling success.
