SHREK THE THIRD

The third round of this ‘unconventional’ yet unquestionably brilliant fairytale looks set to be a right belter. Having previously left Shrek and Fiona to enjoy their happy ever afters following their not-so-welcome return to the Kingdom of Far Far Away, their walk into the sunset is stalled by another threat lingering on the horizon. With the Fairy Godmother clan and Puss in Boots already dealt with, our heroes’ future now lies more with mayhem than the magical.

King Harold, bless his little amphibious heart, becomes ill and is forced to ditch the throne for his deathbed, leaving Shrek as the rightful heir. But an ogre King he is not, and in his refusal to replace swamp with palace, he embarks on a mission to locate the next rightful heir before the Kingdom falls into disreputable rule, namely by one very jilted Mr Charming (ahh, Charming…)

Further tension is added with Fiona’s expectant announcement, who is left to rally up her own army of fairy tale heroines to guard the throne in Shrek’s absence. My sister taught me to never mess with a pregnant lady guarding her nest, let alone a hormonal ogre defending a kingdom - Mr Charming, take heed…

Shrek, along with liegemen Donkey and Puss in Boots, goes on a rampant search for Fiona’s rebellious cousin Artie (Mr Timberlake notching up another role in his recent acting spate) to convince him to fasten crown securely on head.

With a cast list that reflects a night sky of stars (I mean: lots of famous people) and barrels of laughs dropping into your popcorn-hugging laps, the producers of the third instalment of this hugely successful franchise are sure to come up trumps once more.

Kids and adults alike will love its fun and bright quirkiness, and for those of you wanting more - there’s enough lewd subtext to keep your smirk at mast in this summer’s next buzzing hit.
